Water: Above and Below!

Shutting off the water Monday morning before we left the city turned into a bit more of a deal than either of us ever imagined. The city workers discovered the pipe needed to be replaced, so lickety-split they rallied the troops and heavy equipment and got right to it.

That big white truck is really a massive vacuum on steroids (as you can see from the top pic). It literally sucks the earth up (rocks, tree roots and all) to 'dig' a hole around the pipe.

I joked every house should have access to one at least once a year to get rid of the clutter. It'd give 'housecleaning' a whole new meaning! But I digress...

After the men made the repairs they filled the hole back in, swept the boardwalk, raked the cedar chips back on top, and painted the valve a spiffy neon blue. Thanks, guys!

We drove as far as Gaylord, Michigan, and enjoyed a tasty turkey dinner at Gobblers Restaurant. Seriously, what else would a place called Gobblers serve?!

This morning we woke up to snow and freezing rain. Although it turned to rain about thirty minutes south of Gaylord, it rained all the way to Franklin, Indiana. Fingers crossed the sun comes out tomorrow!

* * *

  1. Looks like you got out in time. News said wind at 70 k in gusts. Could do a Mary Poppins imitation and land in Alaska. Sandy supposedly heading directly this way and be here by tomorrow night. Joy. Glad you're having a good time. Drive safe.

  2. It rained all day, Pat. Miserable and cold, but at least we fared WAY better than those on the coast. Scary stuff. Hugs!

  3. Think of the end result, sand and sun and your husband out of your hair for the next few months as he bikes and is out on the water......LOL
    Have FUN....

    1. Hey "Anonymous" you sound like my sister-in-law...are you?!
