Powassan Maple Syrup Festival

In spite of the rain (and a few snowflakes added to the mix) on Saturday we headed to Powassan to attend the 17th annual Maple Syrup Festival. Imagine our surprise when we discovered we weren't the only crazies venturing outdoors in such dismal weather.

Besides the maple syrup there was plenty to see. Most intriguing was The Beaver Lever. Invented by Nathan and promoted by his lovely daughter, Elayna, this Canadian invention caught our eye.

If you're looking for an easy way to make kindling inside, the beaver lever is it. Check out their website and Facebook page. If you have a woodstove, this is one of those must have made-in-Canada machines that will make your life easy.

Speaking of wood cutting, John enjoyed the chain saw safety exhibit and while he seems to be keeping a distance in the photo below, it was only a matter of time before he'd inched up to the table and started chatting and asking a gazillion questions.

Stacks of pancakes and maple syrup were served at a number of local churches. We arrived too late to partake (on purpose!), but there was lots of other activities that did not include eating. Everything from petting zoos...

To pygmy goats wandering about the streets. (They were REALLY tiny and REALLY cute!)

The festival also included lots of live entertainment. There were bagpipes...

Three piece bands...

And even step dancers...

Last, but certainly not least, is Keegan. He's always up for playtime - festival or not!
